What you should know about Corian Counter Tops
Corian, the original solid surface material, requires
minimal care to maintain its original beauty. Corian,
with proper care, will remain as beautiful as the day
it was installed. Follow these simple guidelines to
keep Corian looking like new. On matte/satin finish,
wipe the surface with a damp cloth to remove watermarks.
For stains, simply wipe with soapy water or ammonia-based
cleaners. You can use an abrasive cleaner with green
Scotch-Brite pad to remove stubborn stains. To maintain
a like-new appearance, rub occasionally with pad alone.
To disinfect occasionally wipe surface with diluted
household bleach (1 part water/1 part bleach).
Corian withstands heat better than ordinary surfacing
materials. However, hot pans directly from the cooktop
or oven, as well as some heat-generating appliances,
like frying pans or crock-pots, can damage the surface.
Always use a hot pad or trivet equipped with rubber
feet to protect the Corian surface from hot pans and
electrical appliances.
Although Corian is resistant to permanent damage, avoid
exposure to strong chemicals. If strong cleaners such
as paint removers, paintbrush cleaners, metal cleaners,
oven cleaners, cleaners containing methylene chloride,
acetone (nail polish remover) and acid drain cleaners
come in contact, then quickly flush surface with plenty
of soapy water. Nail polish should be removed with an
anon-acetone-based nail polish remover, such as Cutex,
and then flushed with water. Corian is also highly impact-resistant,
but heavy or pointed objects striking the surface can
leave damage. Avoid cutting directly on Corian countertops
and run cold water when pouring boiling water into sinks
The beauty of Corian is that scratches and cuts can
be sanded away with 180- or 220- grit fine sandpaper
until the cut is gone. To restore the finish, use an
abrasive cleaner and a green Scotch-Brite pad.
